I am honored to join the team here at Eugenio Maria de Hostos, as the elementary principal. We
have been busy planning and preparing for an amazing 2023-2024 school year. I am so excited
to meet you and welcome our students in September.

A little about me… I am the proud mom of three teenagers and live with my family in Dansville
NY. I enjoy spending time with family, gardening and being near the water any time I get a
chance. I began my career as a special education teacher in a private school in Rochester and
have more than 25 years of service in educational leadership and management positions. I
served as a Corps Member for AmeriCorps, stationed on Lowry Air force-base in Aurora
Colorado, served as a special education teacher, a middle school math teacher, promoted to a
middle school principal, recruited as Chief of Schools (elementary, secondary, and
Receivership), promoted to Chief of Leadership development in a large urban district, recruited
as the Interim Principal for Urban Choice Charter School and am now serving as the elementary
principal at Eugenio Maria de Hostos.

Please know that the relationship between family, community and school is valued and so very
important. We will continue to work collaboratively with families and our community in
providing the very best learning opportunities for our students.

The faculty and staff at EMHCS work diligently to achieve the school’s mission of preparing students to meet and/or exceed the New York State standards in core subject areas and becoming bi-literate in both English and Spanish. Our vision is if a child cannot learn the way we teach, then we will learn to teach the way the child can learn.

The instruction is delivered in a workshop model where teachers begin with a focused, standards-based, explicit mini-lesson, followed by a differentiated work period that enables students to practice their new learning. Students are then brought together for a closing debrief and an opportunity to reflect on their learning.

During centers, teachers and paraprofessionals lead rigorous instruction that supports the development of higher-order cognitive and critical thinking skills and challenges students to defend and elaborate on their answers
